Finished!

The WIP is done!  I finished writing it yesterday and read throught it today, making some changes and seeing how it flows.  I like it a lot.  It's as tight as anything I've written, it's got plenty of action, mystery, magic, and suspense.  It's even got a bit of humor.  I was hoping it would come in somewhere between 100,000 and 110,000 words.  The final tally was just under 107,000, making it the shortest book I've ever written.  But I think that's part of the reason it reads so well.

Now let's see if I can sell it.

Thanks, Karen. Other stuff to do. But a break from bookwriting is definitely in the works.

Thanks, Dave. This is the first book I've ever finished that wasn't already contracted. Feels a little weird. I'm hoping to sell it soon.

Don't think I haven't struggled with that a bit. But this book feels right at this length. It's a single POV, it's a stand alone mystery, and it just needed to be this length. That said, the epic fantasist in me keeps looking at it and saying, "You know, with another subplot or two we could get that up to 140-150k no problem...."

Thanks, Mary. Me, too. Best thing is, I'm already kind of jazzed about starting the next one. I'll give myself a break, but I definitely don't feel burnt out.

OMG -- mine was 107K too! Magic friggin' number, I tell you. It means we're both going to get million dollar contracts. Just you wait. :)

Wow! That's a little freaky, actually. Is yours YA or adult?
