Stuff -- Updated

It's been a pretty hectic couple of days.  Thursday was my birthday, today is my younger daughter's birthday, and in between we had her party (a pool party -- great success) and a trip to Chattanooga for a movie ("Bedtime Stories") and a sushi dinner.  Fun stuff.

We also had to negate the contract we had on the house we'd hoped to buy.  Not so fun.  Long story, which I won't discuss in detail, except to say that this had nothing to do with selling our house or getting a loan and everything to do with something on the seller's end of the deal.  We're disappointed, but relieved that we got out of the deal when we did rather than getting ourselves deeper into what would have been a far worse situation.  But we still have earnest money at stake and hope to get it back without things turning too ugly.  More as it develops.

Today we're scrambling to finish a school science fair project and preparing for one last nice dinner to celebrate the pair 'o birthdays.

Happy Birthday to your daughter and (belatedly) to you! Tough turning 25? :)

A kids party eh? Those more stressful than book deadlines? ;)

Had thought it would get easier as ours got older. He's only 3 but already we have outings and 'play dates', etc... and it's just begininning. Shouldn't they become MORE self-sufficient as they age rather than less?

Sorry about the house. Can't see why you wouldn't get your deposit back if the seller changed the terms of the deal...

Yes, this was the 21st anniversary of my 25th birthday. Yay....

In certain ways it does get easier as they older. Ours are now (almost) 14 and 10. They can do all sorts of stuff for themselves around the house. We they need a shower they take a shower -- no need for giving baths. When they're hungry for breakfast or lunch they can feed themselves and clean up the messes they make.

But they have more interesting and complicated lives now, which means that we spend far more time taking them places -- practices, rehearsals, friends' houses, etc. In that way it is infinitely more complicated. And of course, it won't be long before both of them are dating and finding themselves in social situations that bring up all sorts of potentially troubling issues (most of them substance related). So, no, it doesn't get simpler or easier. But it sure is interesting....

And the house thing.... Trust me: it's more complicated that it sounds.

I think you're right about buyers being in a good position. Unfortunately, in order to be buyers we must also be sellers...

Thing is, we love our house and all our reasons for moving are basically convenience issues (more space, closer to town) so if we don't find anything we love, we can stay here and be happy. A good position to be in...

Thanks for the good wishes.
