Wow....

You know you've crossed the line in terms of campaign sleaziness when Karl Rove says you've gone too far.

Was trying to think of an acceptable analogy to Rove being even a little disgusted and the only ones I could come up with were too disgusting to type here. :)

Yeah, this ain't the McCain of 2000...if that McCain even existed. What is surprising, or not, is how bold the campaign is about coming right and saying they lost in 2000 because they didn't sling it enough, that we haven't seen McCain do many TV interviews since the "Birth Control/Viagra" screw up, and they haven't even curtailed Palin's outright lies in her stump speech (see the latest in NV) as it is all solved by claiming that the lies aren't really lies they're just made out to be that way by the 'media' filter.

P.T. Barnum (and Shrub) would be proud...

Yeah, if they lose this time it won't be because they ran too positive a campaign. That's for certain.

Note the update at the bottom:

"UPDATE: Rove said Sunday Democrats e-mailing around his quote without noting that he levels similar criticism against Obama were distorting his meaning. “Of course, they fail to say anything about the fact I said they were even more misleading,” he told Politico."

Karl Rove criticizing Democrats isn't news. He's been behind some of the most vicious, hate-filled, dishonest attacks on Democrats for years (and, by the way, he was also behind the unspeakably disgusting attacks on John McCain back in 2000, when McCain really was a different kind of politician). What IS news is that this man in particular -- this partisan hack, this purveyor of lies and personal attacks -- should criticize McCain's advertising as having crossed some kind of line in terms of dishonesty and bad taste. That's what made it notable. Otherwise, nothing Karl Rove says is really worth listening to.
